I've decided to write a new lifestyle blog. Why? I've always enjoyed blogging. I used to love going on Xanga back in my middle school years, before it became out-of-style. (Side note: Xanga shut down for awhile, but I just looked them up again, and I guess there's a 2.0 version. Good to know…) I've also spent many hours on Tumblr, but I've used it more for reblogging pictures than actually posting my own content. I wanted to get back in the habit of writing about my experiences and photographing them.
Not only would it be fun to go back and read about what I've been up to, I also thought maybe there's a chance I could earn some extra money! I've been doing a lot of reading about bloggers who make $40,000 a month. Wow! That's about how much I make in a year! Now granted, I am not going to fool myself into thinking I'll be making that much money, but any extra income would be helpful, right?
Why Start Now?
I always feel that if I am going to start a new journal or blog, there needs to be a purpose. I always think Why start now? Well, to answer that question, I am starting a new job next week. End of the summer, back-to-teaching, but this time within a new district. I'll still be teaching middle school math, so hopefully it will not be too big of a change, but since I'm changing, that'll give me new content to write about. Also with the new job comes a new computer. Hooray! I didn't have my own computer this summer due to the job change, so now I can start writing again. I'm really not a fan of trying to write on my phone…
So, I guess that's a little introduction on why I'm doing this and why I'm starting now. Final thought: what will I be writing about? I know most bloggers recommend "picking a niche" and writing about that. But I just can't decide. I have too many interests that I would like to write about. So instead this blog will be a compilation of all my interests, and I'll see what it morphs into as months and years go by. Here's a beginning list of topics that may be included, if you would like to get a sense of my style. There may be more or less, depending on how my interests evolve. Hopefully you will find something that interests you as well!
Blogging Topics and Ideas
Teaching. As mentioned, I am a teacher. That takes up a lot of my time and effort, but it is a rewarding experience. I may write about cool lesson plans I've had, or the roller-coaster ride that comes with being a teacher. As any teacher knows, it can be very stressful at times, but I'm going to try to keep this blog as positive as possible. I want this to be a place where I can look back and think "Wow, that was neat!"
Food and Drinks. I love food! I love trying out new recipes and restaurants. For those reading that may not already know, I'll come out and say this to get it out of the way: Yes, I'm a vegetarian. No, I don't eat fish. Yes, I still eat eggs and dairy. And even though I am a vegetarian, that does not mean I don't love food. In fact, through this I've learned to love food even more, because now I try foods and recipes I've never thought of before. But this blog won't be me trying to turn you into a vegetarian. I'll just be sharing some foods and restaurants I've tried and hopefully you will try too. Also, I enjoy making my own cocktails, and you will see me at the occasional (or more than occasional…) wine tasting.
Cats and Animals. I have two cats at home that I love very much. I'm also a huge dolphin fan, and my bathroom has a whole dolphin collection. I love animals, so you may see me taking pictures of animals from time to time.
Board Gaming. I've been interested in board games since I was a child. Recently, about two years ago, I joined a community a gamers that meet once a week. They have a huge collection of games, and people bring even more games each week. So there may be times where I share the games I've recently played and my thoughts on them.
Traveling. I enjoy visiting and researching new locations near and far. Just in the past two years, I've been to Disneyworld, Washington D.C., Alaska, and Las Vegas. I've yet to travel outside the country besides the Canadian airport, so I hope that changes soon! I also enjoy going to festivals, fairs, and markets, so I may talk about my experiences at those.
Yoga. I love yoga, but I haven't been keeping up with this lately. Temporarily, I had moved away from the studios that I usually go to, but now that I have a new job and location I am hoping I can get back into the yoga routine.
Books. This is another hobby that I have not been keeping up with as much recently. I had a book club before where we would meet once a month to discuss a book, but that disbanded when people started moving and changing jobs. I have just recently started up a new book club, and our first meeting is this month, so I hope this works out. Then I can share the books we have been reading and my reviews of them.
Some books from last book club:
Music/Movies/TV. This is a category with a lot of little interests. I would say I am not as passionate about this topic as some of the other topics, but since it does take up a portion of my life, I probably should write about it as well. So I'll review movies, TV shows, and whatnot so you can get more into the happenings of my life.
Fashion/Cosplay. Final one on this list. This is the last one on the list because I don't explore it very often, but when I do, I get really in-depth. I go to conventions and love to dress up for them. I'm also interested in Japanese fashion and have a Lolita wardrobe. I just don't wear it out as much as I used to. There are just always so many other events going on, it's hard to make time for everything. But again, when I do wear it, I get really into it. Hope that makes sense!
